Jan/June, 2003 - a collection of sights from the first half of 2003
From Biz to Beatles, this peculiar show at the multi-functioning Kirkley Hall was set up by a coalition of government agencies designed to offer rural folk alternate ways of making a living. Not very many actual rural folk showed up over the three day period. The Beatles tribute band played several sets per day, ostensibly to demonstrate how THEY had been helped by these agencies to start their own business - but, foolishly placed in the main seminar and exhibit hall, they managed to drown out most attempts at conversation. They WERE actually quite good... but hideously mis-used. Much money was spent on this affair. Shame it wasn't put to better use. We, on the other hand, did quite well - being the lucky recipients of a free table and a free lunch and breakfast in this most pleasant of settings. We did manage to sell a little honey and spread the word of our efforts but were quite mistified as to why such massive funds hadn't been better used to actually HELP Rural Enterprise in some functional ways. |
